At Lakewood Ranch Chiropractic, our Bradenton chiropractor has more than 10 years of experience in helping patients find relief from a host of spinal ailments, including sciatica. If you've been experiencing sciatic nerve pain and are looking for a natural, non-invasive, and drug-free approach to treatment, our chiropractic team is here to help.
Specifically, sciatica refers to a painful condition that occurs when the large sciatic nerve, which runs throughout the lower back and into the thighs, becomes compressed by parts of the spine. This can result in a host of symptoms, including:
Sciatica can occur to anybody at just about any time, although those who spend a lot of time on their feet or sitting without proper lumbar support are at a greater risk of developing this condition.
The good news is that if you're suffering from sciatica, there are many chiropractic treatments that can help you find relief. Because compression of the spine can often lead to excessive pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve, spinal decompression therapy is one of the most common chiropractic treatments that we will recommend and perform in our office. This treatment focuses on creating negative pressure along the spinal column, allowing compressed vertebrae to elongate. This, in turn, can also help to treat spinal problems such as herniated and bulging discs. As the spine becomes decompressed, pressure on the sciatic nerve is relieved, resulting in lower back pain relief and, often, relief from other symptoms.
Typically, we will recommend spinal decompression therapy in conjunction with other chiropractic treatment options, such as spinal adjustment. This manual adjustment allows our chiropractor to correct alignment issues along the spinal column, thus enhancing spinal health and further reducing sciatic nerve pain and other symptoms.
Depending on the cause of your sciatica, we may also make some lifestyle recommendations to help reduce your chances of developing sciatic nerve pain again in the future. For example, if you spend a lot of your day sitting (as may be the case for those with a desk job), we may recommend changes to your workspace that will provide you with better lumbar support and encourage better overall posture. If you spend the majority of your day on your feet, we may also make some recommendations in regards to the shoes you wear to ensure you are receiving proper back support while you work.
All of our chiropractic treatments for sciatica are completely drug-free and non-invasive, so they don't come with the inherent risks of many other treatments.
